2017 Jeep Gladiator has always been known for producing great vehicles and its success has started by making trucks of course. The long line of trucks that have been produced under this nameplate are numerous and very popular but people seem to forget those due to the change in industry and the needs of the market and the demand for more comfortable trucks and SUVs. The new 2017 Jeep Gladiator is supposed to change all of that and remind us on a time when trucks were more rugged and were a standard. The concept car was introduced a while ago but there were no talks about producing a production model for a long time. Finally speculations seem to be getting closer to realization with the 2017 model.
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR
2017 Jeep Gladiator is a full-size pickup truck made for all those who are looking for a very tough vehicle in this class. This amazing truck has been produced since 1962, and now it is about to be revealed again as 2016 model. This heavy-duty truck will give you an excellent ride over difficult roads as well as in long distance driving. Exterior look of this great truck will have a real army appearance, and instead of the typical army green it will be available in red color. New Jeep Gladiator will come about 1900mm high. Its body structure will look stronger and more powerful than before. Interior of the vehicle will be equipped and upholstered with high quality materials that will provide very comfortable ride. Seats will be covered with waterproof cozy material which will provide required level of comfort. It is interesting that this great heavy-duty truck’s space can be customized on request. 2017 Jeep Gladiator comes with expanded mid-gate and 5’8” bed.
At the back, there is one considerable difference. The usual doors and tailgates are going to be completely replaced by a bed. There are going to be two much smaller doors that are given to the back and act as an entrance way to the back seat area. The spare wheel has been placed on the side of the car and is no longer positioned under the bed and accounts for a much cooler look for this vehicle. This has been something that was used with the old Dodge models of the 40s and 50s and now becomes a part of the newest Gladiator vehicle as well.
On the inside, the Jeep Gladiator keeps the design to a minimum. As in many other true workhorse models, the Gladiator’s dashboard features only the important elements. Although the driver and his rightside passenger might feel quite comfortable, the back seat passengers might not share the same impressions, as the rear bench is pretty cosy, to say the least. The rear seats will, most likely, be built with the possibility of removing them, thus allowing for an easy access to the bed through the rear door.
2017 JEEP GLADIATOR POWERTRAIN
Under the hood of the new 2017 Jeep Gladiator we will be able to see two different engines. The base power unit will be V6 which is capable to produce 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The second option will be a 2.8-liter inline 4 diesel engine. This engine can give 160 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and it is perfect for those who want a vehicle that can get as much as 25 mpg on average.
The hood hides an identical engine as the one in the Wrangler. This means a 3.6-liter unit developing 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Although it’s great stats performance wise, it’s appalling fuel economy wise. It would only make sense to add the 2.8-liter VM Motori turbocharged diesel inline 4-cylinder to the lineup as well, but one can only wish. It’s a spectacular unit, however. Capable of producing 160 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque it’s more than adequate to move the Wrangler around while returning great fuel economy at the same time. Power will be transferred to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic. Should you want off-road capabilities improved even further, there’s an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed auto.
RELEASE DATE AND PRICE
When it comes to the price of the new 2017 Jeep Gladiator, according to the sources it will cost around $26.500. We are not sure yet when it will hit the showroom floors, but it seems it will happen by the end of 2016 or in early 2017.
Automotive News claims that the development of a Wrangler pickup truck is already underway, but no-one really knows if it will take on the shape of the Gladiator concept car (based on the Ram 1500) or whether it will be something more akin to the Jeep Wrangler Red Rock Responder, presented at the Easter Safari earlier this year.
Either way, it is likely to take on the competition in the form of the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 TrailHawk and the Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad.
