2018 Ford Raptor Remember the old days when a design was expected to carry a pickup-truck model for nearly a decade? Well, that’s ancient history.

2018 f 150 release date

With truck sales continuing to outpace passenger vehicles—Ford sold more than 820,000 F-series trucks in 2016, more than double the sales of the Toyota Camry, the top-selling passenger car—manufacturers have a vested interest in keeping trucks fresh. That means shorter life cycles with numerous updates in between. Ford isn’t taking any chances with its aluminum-bodied cash cow.

2018 f 150 diesel specs

Just three short years after the latest F-150 made its debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show, the automaker has given its styling a once-over and updated the powertrains, including adding a diesel to the menu for the first time.

EXTIRIROR AND INTIRIOR CHANGES

500 pounds lighter than before, the new 2018 Ford Raptor truck will be high strength, aluminum alloy, and military-graded. This will be the best Raptor which has been produced; it will be a combination of lightweight materials of high quality and strength. The 2018 Ford Raptor is based on the Ford’s newest F-150 truck. With some new lines and unique touches, this model will have totally bossy look. New Ford’s truck is coming with a redesigned front grille. It will use a honeycomb-mesh grille with large “Ford” logo. The bumper will be also new, made of steel to reduce the abuse of the off-road roads. The rear side of the vehicle, as well as bed and cabin on the other side will remain very similar to previous models. The headlights will be powered with the latest LED technology, for better visibility in all conditions.  The 2018 Ford Raptor will also come with some new, larger alloy wheels and tires. Although its interior will be very similar with other trucks, the cabin will be equipped with high quality materials and great audio and infotainment system for maximal comfort.

2018 FORD RAPTOR ENGINE

2018-ford-raptor-interiorUnder the hood of the 2018 Ford Raptor, instead of the old 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, we will find an all-new 3.5-liter Eco Boost V6. This powerful engine can easily make up to 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque in the base trim level. A 10-speed automatic transmission with manual-shifting mode will send power to all four wheels.

Considerable attention has been focused on the F-150’s powertrain lineup. A new direct-injected 3.3-liter V-6 replaces the previous 3.5-liter V-6 and is expected to produce the same 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque as the previous engine but consume less fuel doing so. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 gets some love, too; the current unit is replaced by a new second-generation version with port- and direct-injection technology (the previous 2.7 was direct injection only). The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 continues for 2018, and the 5.0-liter V-8 is revised, with improvements in horsepower and torque expected. Ford, however, is not yet releasing specific output numbers for these engines. The company is saying that both EcoBoost V-6s and the V-8 will be paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission, and auto stop/start is standard across the lineup.

RELEASE DATE AND PRICE

The price of the new 2018 Ford Raptor will be range from $50,000 to $60,000, which is a $10,000 more than the price of the previous models. According to some rumors, the 2018 Ford Raptor might be at the market very soon, already in the coming months.

In the rear, the 2018 Ford Raptor

also gets new lighting elements, but the changes are more subtle – there is now a split between the upper and lower portion of the element, whereas before it looked to be all one piece. What’s more noticeable is the restyled tailgate, which comes in two varieties. The lower trim levels will get a creased trapezoid look with F-150 embossed across the lower portion (it seems the badges weren’t big enough for some people to notice). On King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trucks, the embossing goes away and a fancy appliqué covers most of the upper portion of the tailgate.

The decision to omit the embossing on those trucks apparently came late in the game, as a rendering we saw at Ford HQ had them both. The F-150’s chief designer said the combination of the stamped name and shiny trim looked too busy. We agree.

The long-awaited light-duty turbodiesel V6 arrives for 2018, but buyers will still have to wait a little longer for it. This 3.0-liter Ford-developed diesel won’t be available until summer of 2018, while the rest of the revamped F-150s will go on sale in the fall of this year. Ford is providing precious few details on the F-150’s Power Stroke, which is a version of the Lion diesel it builds for PSA and Jaguar Land Rover products, but we can get an idea of the kind of output it will offer from other applications – in Range Rovers, the

3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel makes 254 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, so figure at least that much for the F-150’s version.
